Some Jollibee stores run short of chicken

Jollibee Foods Corp. confirmed on Wednesday a “small number” of stores were unable to serve chicken orders on higher demand and limited supply.

“Due to continued increase in consumer demand and limited chicken supply in the market that meets our high-quality standards, a small number of stores of Jollibee and Mang Inasal are unable to serve some chicken orders,”Jollibee said in a statement.

The company, however, said the supply was already improving and that was continuously working with suppliers to address the immediate demand. “We are confident that these select branches will be able to fully serve their customers’ chicken orders soon,” it said.

Some McDonalds stores are also reportedly experiencing same situation. Prices of chicken shot up since the start of the year, which was due to low poultry production, according to the Department of Agriculture.

Wet markets are selling whole dressed chicken for P200 per kilogram, up from P160 at the start of the year. Malaysia recently banned chicken exports to stabilize supply at home.
