ABS-CBN Corp. said it sold 8.9 million digital terrestrial television device as of November, increasing the penetration of digital TV in households across the country.

“With the rapid rise of TVplus in homes nationwide, digital TV is fast becoming the standard in television viewing in the Philippines,” said ABS-CBN head of Access Charles Lim.

Since 2015, the company has been at the forefront in complying with the government’s mandate to shut down analog broadcast and shift to digital. Digital television is capable of better picture and sound, giving users an enhanced viewing experience.

Data on digital terrestrial television penetration in November 2019 from Kantar Media showed that the number of non-cabled homes in Metro Manila that have TVplus had risen to 81 percent from 72 percent in August 2018, while the number of non-cabled homes in Mega Manila with TVplus grew to 75 percent from 65 percent.

In the suburbs, that number rose to 69 percent from 57 percent.

ABS-CBN in June this year gave Filipinos on-the-go the chance to watch ABS-CBN TVplus’ shows as it introduced the mobile version of TVplus called ABS-CBN TVplus Go, which turns Android smartphones into pocket television devices.

ABS-CBN TVplus currently has 16 coverage areas, including Metro Manila, Bulacan, Batangas, Nueva Ecija, Pangasinan, Rizal, Laguna, Pampanga, Tarlac, Benguet, Cavite, Metro Cebu, Cagayan De Oro, Iloilo, Bacolod and Davao.

The media and entertainment company owned by the Lopez Group earlier reported a net income of P2.26 billion in the first nine months of the year from P1.48 billion year-on-year.

ABS-CBN generated consolidated revenues of P32 billion from advertising and consumer sales, up 8.6 percent on year.

Advertising revenues increased 15 percent, attributable to both political placements and growth in regular advertising. Excluding political placements, regular advertising rose by 5.6 percent on year. Darwin G. Amojelar
