PLDT, Amdocs of US near outsourcing deal

PLDT Inc. said it is likely to close a deal this month with Amdocs, a US-based  software and services provider, to outsource some of its information and technology operations.

“There now negotiations ongoing with Amdocs, we hope to complete that by end of January,” PLDT chairman and president Manuel Pangilinan.

Amdocs offers digital and network transformation through innovative solutions, delivery expertise and intelligent operations to customers. It has 25,000 employees serving customers in over 85 countries.

Pangilinan said PLDT earlier signed an agreement with Huawei involving the integrated online billing system and integrated service delivery platforms of the company.

PLDT signed a $28.5 million partnership  with global information and communications technology leader Huawei to transform the group’s wireless service delivery platforms.

The project is part of PLDT Group’s massive capital expenditure program for the  overhaul of its fixed and wireless networks infrastructure and its information technology systems, which is expected to exceed P50 billion in 2018.

When asked on the number of employees that would be affected from IT outsourcing, Pangilinan said, “ That’s being quantified, I don’t think it would be significant.”

PLDT has over 1,000 IT personnel.

PLDT in August last year terminated its negotiations with IBM due to “a lot of reasons.”

PLDT was expecting to save P7 billion over the next five years from the planned manpower reduction of its IT department.

Besides manpower reduction, the company would also cut expenses on travel, seminars, symposia, foreign trips and essential entertainment.

PLDT earlier reported that net income rose by 38 percent to P21.87 billion in the first nine months of 2017, mostly because of the proceeds from the sale of its shares in Beacon Electric Asset Holdings Inc and SPi Global Holdings Inc.

PLDT’s consolidated revenues amounted P119.07 billion in the January-to-September period, down 5 precent from P125.37 billion.

In terms of business units, PLDT Home revenues grew 12 percent to P24.3 billion, while Enterprise business posted an 11 percent increase to P25.3 billion.

The Wireless Individual Business posted P44.2 billion in service revenues – 14 percent lower than the first three quarters of 2016.

Home and Enterprise combined now account for 47 percent of revenues, surpassing the 41 percent contribution of the Wireless Individual business.
