The Complete Package: CEO Chiqui Escareal-Go

One thing that keeps thrilling me on my MBA journey is the very opportunity of meeting leaders and influential people of different fields and be able to learn from them. As I always instill to myself, learning from others’ experience is greater among any forms of education available.

In line with this, it was astonishing to see a person of complete package coming in our class for our CEO Series: Business Trends and Issues. I am still impressed by  how Ms. Chiqui Escareal-Go  swiftly managed to discuss the importance of self-understanding and its practical application to business and even to personal matters.

As a background, she is currently one among the pillars of a company providing marketing training and consultancy to clients. Even without any marketing background at start of her CEO journey, Chiqui has grown Mansmith and Fielders Inc. to be the leader in its industry. She embodies the values of perseverance and being a life-long learner. These are values I will carry while I pave my own road to success.

Understanding our self

Human beings are indeed the most complex things to understand in this world. As mentioned by Chiqui, it is important that we first look into ourselves before we can be capable and appreciative of understanding other persons. I learned that deeper understanding of what we value and how we behave promotes our well-being and our interaction towards other especially families and friends.

Chiqui interestingly told stories about her self-understanding processes such as interviews and consultations with expert people like psychologists and spiritual leaders. Until now, it struck me how Greek Mythology and Greek Gods can be used as a method of understanding our own personality. Furthermore, the language of love is one among things Chiqui have mentioned that I would like to further explore and understand.

Unlocking potentials: Business Anthropology

Another takeaway from Chiqui’s talk is her introduction of business anthropology to the class. I came to realize that it is indeed fair enough that we should also study on how human attitude and society evolves so we can apply learnings to business.

I have searched several articles online and surprisingly; a lot has already been published about the linked of anthropology to business which and are most often called as applied anthropology. Definitely, if humans are the most important resources we could get then there will always be a need for an organization or schools to introduce learners in the application of anthropology to business.

Continuing to educate yourself

As mentioned, Chiqui was at start not an expert of any marketing principles nor methodologies. Instead, she focused on learning the subject by continuously learning and attending several programs to compensate her lack of knowledge in the field. Evidently, she has been a studious student of several universities here and abroad.

This is principle and attitude I also believe in taking MBA: that we should not limit ourselves to what seems to be only available, instead we should go out and explore what we can learn out from the world.
