Two infrastructure projects are utilizing Sika Philippines Inc.'s construction products, applied by partner Technocrete Trading, a testament to the products' efficacy, reliability and efficiency.

The local government unit of Batangas City contracted Technocrete Trading, a Sika product applicator for the retrofitting/strengthening of the Calumpang Bridge.

The bridge, which connects the town proper to SM Mall, Days Hotels and other commercial establishments, needed to undergo rehabilitation and repair due to its age and to ensure a reliable national road system bridge program.

The strengthening includes the confinement of columns, shear strengthening of beams and flexural strengthening of beams and slabs.

Technocrete used the SikaWrap-230 C and and Sikadur 330 products for the Calumpang Bridge project, which was completed in the first quarter this year.

"We are grateful to Technocrete for the confidence in the Sika products. We have long shown that our products are world-class and top of the line. Commitment to excellence has always been a hallmark of our company," said Alainne Leonardo, target market and marketing head of Sika Philippines.

SikaWrap-230 C, a woven unidirectional carbon fiber fabric, is designed for structural strengthening applications as part of the Sika strengthening system. It is flexible and accommodating to different surface planes and geometry (beams, columns, chimneys, piles, walls, soffits, silos etc.) and is extremely cost effective in comparison to traditional strengthening techniques

Meanwhile, Sikadur-330 is a two-component, thixotropic epoxy based impregnating resin and adhesive. It has excellent application behavior to vertical and overhead surfaces.

Technocrete, as project subcontractor and Sika Philippines, was contracted by Maynilad Water Corp. for the La Mesa Dam Rehabilitation Phase 1 project.

Technocrete and Sika Philippines are undertaking the critical repair of all tank concrete walls prior to application of tank lining, coatings and wall repairs.

Sika passed the deliberation and testing of materials to be used that conforms to water safety standards certifications.

Among the Sika solutions to be implemented in the La Mesa project are Sikagard-62, a two part, rigid, 100-percent solid, colored high-build epoxy resin based protective coating and Sikagard-720 EpoCem, a three part, epoxy modified cementitious, thixotropic, fine textured mortar for levelling and finishing of concrete, mortar or stone surfaces.

"Our products are known for its durability and environmental friendliness. Our aim is to supply top quality products and services that genuinely meet our customers' needs, justifying their faith in Sika Philippines as a business partner," said Alainne Leonardo.

Technocrete was chosen because of its outstanding safety record, the ability to mobilize a highly skilled workforce to the project site and its commitment to the highest quality standards.

Technocrete teamed up with Sika Philippines, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Swiss-based Sika Group which has been serving the Philippine market since March 1994 to bring the best construction solutions to its clients. The La Mesa project is due for completion in the fourth quarter this year.
