Automotive sales in the ASEAN region dropped 33.9 percent in the first 10 months from a year ago, with the Philippines ranking as the second country with the steepest downturn, according to the ASEAN Automotive Federation.
Indonesia posted 50.5-percent drop in sales to 421,089 units in the first 10 months from 851,222 units a year ago, while the Philippines posted a 42.7-decrease to 173,035 units from 301,761 units.
Singapore followed with 41.4-percent downturn to 45,506 from 77,601 units, while Thailand saw a 27.4-percent drop to 608,880 units from 838,968 units.
Malaysia sales also went down by 19.9 percent to 398,159 units from 396,855 units while Vietnam sales dipped 18.1 percent to 212,409 units. Myanmar posted 10.4-percent decline in sales to 15,145 units. Brunei was the only ASEAN country with positive sales growth of 13.6 percent to 11,220 units.
Vehicle production in ASEAN also slowed down by 36.8 percent to 2.22 million from 3.51 units. Philippine production decreased by 29.8 percent to 54,894 from 78,211 units.
