The Department of Public Works and Highways said it will support the construction of a 5.1-kilometer elevated expressway from Navotas to Anda Circle in Port Area, Manila proposed by NLEX Corp. at a cost of P16 billion.

“It’s ongoing.  We are just reconciling the alignment with other projects. There are about three possible projects that will utilize the same similar right of way, so we need to reconcile. Hopefully by next month or so, there will be a conceptual plan so that we can continue,” Public Works Secretary Mark Villar said over the weekend via a virtual conference.

Villar was referring to the project of San Miguel Corp’s Pasig River Expressway and the Department of Transportation’s railway project.

“But definitely we’re helping push the project. The timeline is by next month we can come up a plan, conceptual design that can accommodate the different alignments,” he said.

NLEX said the proposed project called Harbor Link Port Access Mobility Facility would cost between P15 billion and P16 billion.

Meanwhile, MPCALA Holdings Inc. is set to open two new interchanges of the Laguna segment of the Cavite Laguna Expressway by Aug. 18.

“I am very happy that this BBB project has progressed despite the challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. The community quarantine affected the mobilization of construction, the manpower that oversee the coordination to secure the service roads and the overall timeline of the project. We have carefully navigated through this situation and we are ready to open these interchanges to the public at 12:01AM on August 18,2020,” Villar said.

“It is really a delicate balance as we aim to reach more milestones of this project, while keeping our people, the community and the construction sites safe,” he said.

With the new interchanges, motorists can enjoy access to and from the Laguna Technopark and have an alternative route to and from Nuvali via Laguna Boulevard and South Boulevard.

“About 10,000 cars per day are currently served by the Laguna Segment, and these interchanges are added catalysts for the much-needed economic activity at all levels, it will allow the flow of output of goods and services that people utilize thereby spurring growth in the community and the region,” Villar said.
