SMC expects infra projects to remain on track despite pandemic

San Miguel Corp. said it expects no delays in the construction of infrastructure projects amid the enhanced community quarantine imposed in Luzon to contain the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.

San Miguel said it was not expecting the situation to cause delays in the delivery of the supply of raw materials for use in the company’s projects.

“Neither do we expect delays in the progress of the construction of our infrastructure projects, unless there is a restriction on the free movement of workers and the delivery of supplies and raw materials,” San Miguel said.

San Miguel is constructing the Metro Rail Transit Line 7—a 22-km light rail transit route that will link the new rail with the Light Rail Transit Line 1 and MRT Line 3.

The company is also building the Skyway Stage 3 project—a 14.82-km, six-lane elevated expressway that will extend the existing elevated skyway from Buendia to Balintawak and will link the South Luzon Expressway to NLEX.  It is also developing Skyway Stage 4—a 58.09-km roadway from South of Metro Manila Skyway to Batasan Complex, Quezon City.

San Miguel said it was expecting lower vehicle traffic for its tollway business because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The decrease in the number of travelers will likely also impact the volume of vehicles making use of our toll roads,” San Miguel said.

San Miguel operates South Luzon Expressway—a 36-km toll road that runs from Alabang to Sto. Tomas, Batangas.

The company is also the operator of Skyway Stage 1—a 9.3-km elevated road that runs from Bicutan to the Makati Central Business District and the Skyway Stage 2—a 6.86-km elevated expressway that consists of six lanes in the Bicutan-to-Sucat section, and four lanes in the Sucat-to-Alabang section, with ramps leading to the South Luzon Expressway.

It operates the NAIA Expressway Project, the Tarlac-Pangasina-La Union Expressway and the STAR Tollway—a 22.16-km toll road from Sto. Tomas to Lipa City, Batangas.
