Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman expects Congress to pass the rightsizing bill that aims for a lean, efficient and responsive government workforce into law within the year.

The House Committee on Government Reorganization approved in November 2022 an unnumbered substitute bill that aims to remove redundancy or duplication in functions in government agencies, and even agencies that are already obsolete.

The substitute bill is a consolidation of House Bills 12, 2423, 2787, 2885, 3096, 3227, 3385, 3473, 3529, 3539, 4015, 4086, 4120, 4411 and 4816.

Pangandaman said in a briefing the Budget Department would continue to support the bill all the way to the Senate. “I think it may be passed in the House next week. Then we will try to push it in the Senate,” Pangandaman said.

She said Senators Joel Villanueva and Chiz Escudero already signified their support for the bill.
