Allianz PNB Life teamed up with eSakay in launching seven Electric-jeepneys (or E-jeepneys) to ply the Makati and Mandaluyong routes to help promote environmental sustainability.
“Allianz has always been supportive of environmental sustainability. Through these E-jeepneys, we are offering Filipinos cleaner and greener alternatives to get to their destinations within two major business areas in Metro Manila,” said Allianz PNB Life president and chief executive officer Alexander Grenz in a statement.
eSakay is the electric vehicle unit of Manila Electric Co., which introduced e-jeepneys back in 2010.
“At that time, we started the Green Route here in Makati, covering Legaspi and Salcedo Village. We initially had three vehicles that provided free rides. Now, we are glad that with the help of companies such as Allianz PNB Life, we are able to sustain our efforts in transitioning to green alternatives of mass transportation,” said eSakay operations head Yuri Sarmiento.
He said the eSakay aimed to create an alternative solution that can help address the problem of air pollution.
“In the Philippines, we have 5,000 deaths every year due to environmental diseases, and 70 percent of our CO2 emission comes from mobile vehicles. If we cut down the emissions, we can also cut down the pollution problem in the country, especially here in the city,” Sarmiento said.
Grenz said the e-jeepney was just one of Allianz PNB Life’s corporate social responsibility activities focused on the environment.

We are glad to have found a partner in eSakay to promote our message of environmental sustainability, and we are looking forward to launching more projects that will lead to a healthier planet,” Grenz said.
