Former director-general of the Philippine Economic Zone Authority Lilia de Lima has been appointed member of the board of FWD Life Philippines, one of the fastest-growing insurance companies in the country.

De Lima, whose appointment took effect June 21, served as the first director-general of Peza from 1995 to 2016. As Peza head, De Lima was responsible for building the agency into a showcase of successful regulatory reform, a model institution of honest and committed public service, and a key contributor to the nation’s economic growth.

She was a recipient of the 2017 Ramon Magsaysay Award for her “unstinting, sustained leadership in building a credible and efficient Peza, proving that honest, competent and dedicated work of public servants can, indeed, redound to real economic benefits to millions of Filipino.”

De Lima was also conferred The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star, the highest award given to a non-head of state, by the Japanese government.
