PH, UAE schedule air talks in Cebu

The Philippines and United Arab Emirates are set to hold air talks this week in a bid to increase flight frequencies between the two countries.

The air talks are scheduled on April 26 to 27 in Cebu, following previous aviation negotiations with the UAE in 2012 and 2015 that have expanded air rights entitlements to 70 flights per week between Manila and Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

The UAE-Philippine aviation market is currently served by Emirates, Etihad Airways, Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific.

Air Arabiya, RAK Airlines, Air Philippines, Philippines Air Asia and other airlines may also avail of the negotiated entitlements.

An industry source said UAE carriers would be asking for more flight entitlement rights to Manila for both Emirates and Etihad to use.

“The Philippine government should not grant the request of the UAE airlines for more flights to Manila,” the source said.
