The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas denied on Wednesday reports it spent millions of pesos for the replacement of its logo.

It said in a statement the new logo was developed by in-house talents who shared their skills in the process. “Thus, no procurement was required… There is no truth to reports that it spent millions of pesos in relation to its new logo,” the BSP said.

The change of logo was met by criticisms online, as people said there were many more important things that the BSP should focus on during crisis.

BSP Governor Benjamin Diokno earlier said the change in logo would be in in “keeping with the changing times.” From an eagle profile design of the current logo, the new logo features a full-bodied Philippine eagle rendered in gold, taking inspiration from various wildlife photographs of actual Philippine eagles.

He said the use of the Philippine eagle in the new logo was intended to represent the BSP and the Filipino people which it serves.
