The Department of Trade and Industry issued an order adopting the safety requirements for self-ballasted LED lamps as one of the Philippine National Standards for mandatory implementation under the Bureau of Philippine Standards’ Product Certification Scheme.
Department Memorandum Order 18-02 added the self-ballasted LED lamp to the list of products that the department regulates prior to their distribution to the market.
“This DAO is a result of a series of public consultations with relevant stakeholders. This will further the department’s efforts in ensuring the safety of our consumers especially now that more and more individuals and organizations are using LED lamps in their homes and workplaces,” said Trade Undersecretary Ruth Castelo.
The order also stated that a manufacturer must be able to conduct test parameters on marking completeness, legibility and durability.
