Filipino-Chinese chamber backs joint energy exploration in West Philippine Sea

The Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Inc. (FFCCCII) expressed support for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s announcement on a potential restart of talks on joint oil and gas exploration in the West Philippine Sea.

FFCCCII president Victor Lim said the group is encouraged by the government’s efforts to separate territorial disputes from economic cooperation amid global energy market volatility and geopolitical uncertainty.

“In these times of unprecedented geopolitical uncertainties and tumult and as global energy markets face unprecedented volatility, we are encouraged by the President’s pronouncement that the Philippines continues to pursue the differentiation of territorial disputes from economic engagement which reflect a mature and pragmatic approach to statecraft,” Lim said.

The business leader noted that the president’s stance demonstrates a commitment to the country’s long-term well-being. The federation maintains that practical cooperation on energy security provides a viable path toward a stable and sustainable energy supply for the Philippines.

The FFCCCII urged national stakeholders to support the initiative, adding that finding common ground serves the interests of the Filipino people and regional stability.

The group said such partnerships are vital for the enduring strength of the country’s economic ties.
