DTI secures industry support to cut MSME logistics costs

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is gaining support from industry stakeholders, development partners and local government units as it moves to improve supply chain efficiency and reduce logistics costs for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

DTI Undersecretary Jean Pacheco said the agency’s Supply Chain and Logistics Center (SCLC) is building momentum through multi-sector partnerships designed to strengthen logistics access for Filipino entrepreneurs.

The initiative follows a directive from Department of Trade and Industry Secretary Ma. Cristina Roque to establish a system helping MSMEs overcome persistent supply chain challenges.

“To build a functional SCLC, we needed more than administrative effort. We needed partners, reliable data, outreach, and industry experts to support MSMEs in navigating the complexities of supply chain management,” Pacheco said.

The SCLC has secured support from the Asian Development Bank and the Supply Chain Management Association of the Philippines to develop a comprehensive supply chain database.

The center is supported by 30 logistics partners, including 18 founding members and 12 new partners that recently joined the initiative.

These partnerships provide direct assistance and preferential services to MSMEs. The effort is backed by an expanding database covering 2,500 logistics providers, 3,300 warehouses and more than 15,800 suppliers nationwide. To date, the SCLC portal has recorded more than 21,100 visits from over 6,100 unique users.

Logistics partners have extended SME-friendly international shipping rates to help food exporters shipping fragile goods to the United States. The center also supports multi-drop delivery coordination and provides advisory services for exporters dealing with complex raw material shipments.

The agency is also working with the Taytay local government to establish a physical SCLC facility. The hub is expected to serve around 3,000 business owners in the municipality.
