The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced free rides on major Metro Manila rail lines on Christmas Day as part of a holiday initiative.
The DOTr said the free service applies to the Metro Rail Transit Line 3, Light Rail Transit Line 2 and Light Rail Transit Line 1.
The agency said the program follows a directive from Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to ensure safe and comfortable travel for commuters during the holiday season.
It is also part of a broader “12 Days of Christmas” program intended to ease the financial burden on travelers during the festivities.
The agency expressed gratitude to the public for supporting the program and reaffirmed its commitment to providing faster and more convenient transportation for all residents in the capital region.
While the agency did not specify the total cost of the subsidies, similar programs in the past have aimed to boost mobility for thousands of workers and families.
It encouraged commuters to check specific station operating hours as schedules may vary slightly during the public holiday.
