ACCIONA, partner to build P7-billion Cebu solar plant

ACCIONA Energía Southeast Asia managing director Ignacio Domecq said the project construction has already commenced.

The firm aims to complete the solar farm by December 2026 to meet the requirements of the Green Energy Auction Program -4 award. The project secured a 20-year supply contract under the government program.

The partnership with PowerChina marks the start of a strategic alliance between the two companies. Domecq described PowerChina as an ideal partner due to its global leadership in hydropower and renewable energy infrastructure.

ACCIONA Energía recently secured a contract from the Department of Energy for the 101-megawatt Kalayaan 2 wind farm in Laguna.

Company officials said both projects provide long-term certainty for energy production and support the national goal of increasing renewable energy capacity.

ACCIONA Energía manages a development pipeline of more than 2 gigawatts in the Philippines. The company has operated in the country since 2016 through its water and infrastructure arms, completing projects such as the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway and multiple water treatment plants.

The company’s foundation, acciona.org, also provides electricity to about 3,500 households and small businesses in underserved rural areas. ACCIONA Energía maintains 15.1 gigawatts of renewable capacity across 24 countries and operates with no fossil fuel legacy.
