Agrilever, Tomorrow.io team up on AI weather forecasts for Filipino farmers

Agrilever, an agritech firm supporting smallholder rice farmers, has teamed up with global weather intelligence company Tomorrow.io to deliver hyperlocal, AI-powered weather forecasting to Philippine agriculture to help farmers manage climate risks and protect productivity amid increasingly erratic weather patterns.

The collaboration comes as the Philippines remains among the world’s most climate-vulnerable countries, ranking seventh among nations most affected by extreme weather over the past three decades, from 1995 to 2024, according to GermanWatch’s Climate Risk Index.

The country recorded 371 extreme weather events, resulting in 27,500 fatalities and more than $35 billion in economic losses during the period.

The need for climate-resilient practices and reliable forecasting tools was underscored by recent weather events. In November 2025 alone, the Department of Agriculture (DA) estimated agricultural damage at P743.8 million from Typhoons Tino and Uwan.

As Tomorrow.io’s local partner, Agrilever has supported government agencies with real-time weather intelligence during recent typhoons by providing localized weather reports for the DA and the National Irrigation Administration (NIA).

Tomorrow.io has also monitored and issued detailed analyses on major weather disturbances, including typhoons Nando, Opong, Paolo, Rami, Salome, Tino and Uwan.

Government agencies using Tomorrow.io’s localized application received early warnings on rainfall, wind speed and flood risks, allowing quicker response, stronger asset protection and more informed decision-making before, during and after severe weather events.

For instance, during Typhoon Uwan, Agrilever and Tomorrow.io provided comprehensive weather coverage for affected provinces in Luzon and the Visayas through the NIA’s rice irrigation system, enabling regional units to anticipate field conditions that influence planting schedules and water management.

The partnership also collaborates with the National Food Authority and Bureau of Soils and Water Management to aid farmers in accessing hyperlocal forecasts via mobile devices. Local governments are using Agrilever’s localized weather system for ground-level planning.

“By integrating advanced, hyperlocal weather intelligence into Agrilever’s platform, we are giving farmers the ability to prepare earlier, make faster and more informed decisions, and safeguard their crops even during extreme conditions. When farmers have timely and reliable information, they are better equipped to withstand disasters and recover faster. That is the kind of progress this collaboration makes possible for our communities,” said Agrilever president Ruel Amparo.
