Luzon tollways simplify travel with ‘One RFID’ system

The Department of Transportations (DOTr)  on Tuesday rolled out a unified toll collection system across Luzon, promising a faster, hassle-free journey for all motorists.

“One RFID, All Tollways” allows motorists to use a single Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) account for all expressways in Luzon.

The new system, which began Tuesday, aims to simplify cross-border travel and reduce congestion by eliminating the need for multiple RFID accounts.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. led the launch of the Toll Collection System Interoperability Project at the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) Toll Operation Building in Calamba City, Laguna. The project is a collaboration between the DOTr, the Toll Regulatory Board and RFID service providers Autosweep and Easytrip.

The voluntary program allows subscribers who regularly use multiple expressways to unify their toll experience under one interoperable system.

Early adopters can opt into the new unified RFID while retaining their current accounts, which is expected to minimize the need for multiple tags and wallets at toll plazas.

To switch to the new system, motorists should opt-in online, choosing their preferred RFID service provider, remove the unchosen RFID sticker at authorized customer service centers and load up the chosen RFID account.

The President personally oversaw the online registration process and witnessed the simultaneous removal of unchosen RFID stickers from vehicles equipped with two RFIDs, ensuring only one remains per vehicle.

The system is the result of an extensive development and testing program that began in December 2023. Testing focused on accurate balance updating, transaction integrity, and real-time inter-system communication across all participating toll roads.
