SHFC grants 1-month moratorium on amortization in calamity-hit areas

The Social Housing Finance Corp. (SHFC), an agency under the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD), has declared a one-month moratorium on housing amortization payments for partner-homeowners in communities affected by recent natural calamities.

The suspension of payments, which aims to ease the financial burden on affected families so they can prioritize recovery, covers member-beneficiaries hit by the magnitude 6.9 earthquake in Cebu.

It also includes those affected by Typhoons Nando and Opong in Region IV-B (MIMAROPA), Region V (Bicol) and Region VI (Western Visayas).

The declaration follows a directive from President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. and an instruction from DHSUD Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling to extend urgent support to disaster-affected communities.

SHFC president and chief executive Federico Laxa said the move is meant to give families “space to stand back on their feet without the added pressure of financial obligations.”

“Our priority is the welfare of our communities,” said Laxa.
