Nograles named new NPC president, CEO

State-run National Power Corp. (NPC) welcomed its new president and chief executive Jericho Jonas Nograles, following his confirmation by the National Power Board and his oath of office before Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Sharon Garin on Sept. 9.

Nograles said in a statement he is committed to advancing the corporation’s electrification mandate, including the expansion of renewable energy sources.

“We shall further advance NPC’s mission of providing reliable and sustainable electricity sources in the off-grid areas while ensuring fiscal discipline, operational efficiency, and innovation, consistent with the country’s energy transition goals,” Nograles said.

Nograles has 15 years of public service, with a focus on energy, infrastructure, education, and economic reform. He served as vice chairperson of the House Committee on Energy, an active member of the Joint Congressional Power Commission and was a part of the Joint Congressional Committee on Biofuels.

His legislative accomplishments include the Electric Cooperatives Emergency and Resiliency Fund Act of 2017 (RA 11039), a law that strengthens disaster resilience and supports total electrification.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Management from Ateneo de Manila University, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Western Australia, and was conferred the degree of Doctor of Public Administration, honoris causa, by Sulu State College.

NPC said it looks forward to strengthening its mandate of dependable, affordable and sustainable electrification, especially in missionary and underserved areas, as the corporation approaches its centennial year.
