Taiwan Fructose facility taps geothermal power

The local subsidiary of Taiwan Fructose Co. Ltd. will source geothermal power from First Gen Corp. for its production and logistics facility in Batangas province as part of the Taiwanese company’s broader sustainability efforts.

Under an agreement signed Aug. 27, First Gen will supply the Taiwan Fructose facility inside the First Philippine Industrial Park (FPIP) with electricity from the Bacon-Manito (Bac-Man) geothermal complex in the Bicol region. The Bac-Man complex is owned and operated by Energy Development Corp., a First Gen subsidiary.

The power supply will be provided under the government’s Green Energy Option Program. The Taiwan Fructose facility at the FPIP manufactures products for the export market, including glucose and fructose syrups.

Carlo Vega, First Gen’s chief customer engagement officer, said geothermal energy is an “ideal” source for industries that need stable, 24/7 power with a low carbon footprint. “We are pleased to support Taiwan Fructose in its journey toward sustainability and decarbonization,” he said.
