EDC, Indonesia’s DSSR form joint venture for geothermal projects

Indonesia’s PT DSSR Daya Mas Sakti, a subsidiary of PT Dian Swastatika Sentosa Tbk, has formed a joint venture with PT FirstGen Geothermal Indonesia, a unit of the Philippines’ Energy Development Corp. (EDC), the companies said Wednesday.

The partnership aims to unlock Indonesia’s geothermal potential by developing and managing geothermal resources with a combined potential of about 440 megawatts across six fields in West Java, Flores, Jambi, West Sumatra and Central Sulawesi.

Indonesia has about 40 percent of the world’s geothermal reserves, but has only developed about 10 percent of its potential.

“This agreement is a strategic collaboration to bring world-class knowledge and best practices from EDC to Indonesia,” said Lokita Prasetya, president director of PT DSSR Daya Mas Sakti.

EDC is the largest renewable energy producer in the Philippines.

“By combining EDC’s global capabilities with DSSR’s strong local presence, this joint venture will not only develop projects, but also build capacity and transfer knowledge,” said Francis Giles Puno, vice chairman and chief executive of EDC.

The collaboration aligns with the Indonesian government’s strategy to accelerate the country’s energy transition and achieve a net-zero emission target by 2060.
