PDIC warns bank borrowers against loan insurance scam

State-run Philippine Deposit Insurance Corp. (PDIC) on Monday warned the public against the fraudulent use of its logo on a document being used to deceive bank borrowers.

The PDIC said its Public Assistance Department (PAD) received inquiries about a “Loan Compliance” notice signed by an individual named Luvina P. Soberano-Lim, which required payment of insurance for bank loan applications.

The state deposit insurer said in an advisory the “Loan Compliance” notice is fraudulent. It clarified it does not require or collect payments for insurance coverage on any loan application.

The PDIC said the signatory of the notice is not affiliated with or authorized to represent the corporation, and the bank account in the notice does not belong to the PDIC.

The PDIC urged the public not to act on the “Loan Compliance” notice or similar fraudulent documents.

It also sternly warned that the unauthorized use of its logo is a violation of PDIC Regulatory Issuance No. 2025-01 on the Revised Rules and Regulations on Advertisements and Proper Use of the PDIC Seal, Insurance Statement and Signages.

It asked the public to be vigilant and verify suspicious activities with the PDIC’s PAD through official channels.
