PHINMA secures P825m from Kaizenvest for expansion

PHINMA Education is set to expand its reach to more underserved communities across Southeast Asia following an P825-million investment from Kaizenvest, an education-focused private equity fund.

The investment is a renewal of a previous commitment from Kaizenvest, a returning investor and completes its share in a May 2024 agreement that also included investment from KKR.

“With this investment, we are ready to open more doors for Southeast Asian students determined to pursue higher education,” said Trissa Menardo, chief strategy officer at PHINMA Education.

“With Kaizenvest’s support, we can empower more learners to make their dreams a reality,” said Menardo.

The funding will support PHINMA Education’s planned expansion in the cities of Roxas, San Pablo, Butuan and Bacolod, as well as a new campus in Indonesia. The network serves more than 163,000 low-income students across 13 schools in the Philippines and Indonesia.

The company is also exploring potential future markets in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos to bring its model of accessible, high-quality education to more students.

Beyond expanding its footprint, PHINMA Education is also focused on a coaching model that assigns full-time coaches to students to help them with academic, financial, social and personal challenges.

“We are committed to walking alongside our students—not just in getting them through the door, but in seeing them through the finish line. Because when students succeed, entire communities move forward,” said Menardo.
