PH to lure digital nomads with new visa

The Philippines is positioning itself as Asia’s next prime destination for digital nomads and long-stay travelers, leveraging its new visa policy, strong English proficiency, and cultural appeal to attract remote workers from around the world.

Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco led the country’s push at the Skift Asia Forum 2025 held in Bangkok on May 15, 2025, where she joined top global tourism executives to discuss emerging trends in the travel sector.

Speaking before an international audience, Frasco highlighted the country’s newly launched Digital Nomad Visa (DNV), created under Executive Order No. 86.

The visa allows eligible foreign nationals to live and work remotely in the Philippines for up to one year.

“Long-stay travelers from all over the world work in paradise, where the value proposition that the country offers is not just a low cost stay, but one that is of high value, that provides cultural and immersive experiences, a population that is unparalleled in terms of its hospitality, warmth, and proficiency for English, as well as a host of islands that are ready to have these digital nomads enjoy their experience while working and traveling across the Philippines,”  Frasco said.

To support the digital nomad segment, Frasco said the Department of Tourism (DOT) is working with local government units and regional offices to ensure safety, connectivity, and access to curated cultural experiences through designated tourism circuits.

“We’re also laying the groundwork for longer-term stays through the Special Resident Retiree’s Visa offered by the Philippine Retirement Authority,” she said.

Frasco emphasized that the Philippines is targeting quality travelers, those who travel responsibly, respect local communities, and support sustainable tourism.
