The Philippines and Palau signed a landmark agreement to promote sustainable fisheries, boost trade and investment and enhance technical cooperation.
The memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) and Palau’s Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and the Environment focuses on combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, sharing technology, developing fisheries infrastructure, and facilitating trade and investment.
“This MOU reflects our shared commitment to sustainable fisheries management—ensuring industry growth while complying with legal and international obligations, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea,” said Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr.
