12 RE firms qualify for GEA-3 round

The Department of Energy said 12 renewable energy companies have qualified to participate in the third Green Energy Auction Round (GEA-3) scheduled on Feb. 11, 2025.

The DOE is auctioning installation capacities for impounding hydro, geothermal and pumped storage hydro (PSH) covering the period 2025 to 2035.

It said that pursuant to the terms of reference (TOR) for GEA-3, the Green Energy Auction-Bids Evaluation and Awards Committee (GEA-BEAC), with the assistance of the Green Energy Auction Committee-Technical Working Group (GEAC-TWG), conducted a review of the registration documents submitted by the qualified suppliers during the registration period from Jan. 9 to 10, 2025.

The DOE qualified three bidders for geothermal projects including Maibarara Geothermal Inc. for Maibarara geothermal project 1 to 3; Energy Development Corp. for the Mindanao 3 binary geothermal power plant expansion (phase 3 unit 1) and Bago Binary geothermal power plant (unit 1); and Mac-Man Geothermal Inc. for Playan Binary power plat (unit 1) and Tanawon geothermal power plant (unit 1).

Three bidders qualified for impounding hydro, including Pan Pacific Renewable Power Phils. Corp. for Gened 1 hydro power project 1 and 2; Pulangi Hydro Power Corp. for South Pulangi hydro project; and United Hydro Power Builders Corp. for Dakgan hydro power project.

Meanwhile, there are seven qualified bidders for pumped-storage hydro projects, including Ahunan Power Inc. for Pakil PSH project; First Gen Hydro Power Corp. for Aya PSH project; Olympia Violago Water and Power Inc. for Wawa PSH project; Pan Pacific for Maton PSH project; San Roque Hydropower Inc. for Aklan PSH, San Roque Lower East PSH, San Roque West PSH and San Roque Upper East PSH; COHECO Badeo Corp. for Kibungan PSH project; and Repower Energy Development Corp. for Real II Seawater PSH project.

The DOE earlier said that among the technologies, PSH has the biggest installation target of 4,250 megawatts with delivery period from 2028 to 2035, divided into three lots.
