Mitsubishi Motors bullish on topping 90,000 unit sales

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp. (MMPC) is gearing up for a strong fourth-quarter sales, with a focus on expanding its product lineup and accelerating its electrification strategy.

The company said it is excited about the introduction of the Outlander PHEV, a move that aligns with the global trend towards sustainable mobility.

“The Outlander represents a significant step forward for Mitsubishi in the Philippines. We are closely monitoring market dynamics and exploring the feasibility of bringing this advanced SUV to our customers,” said Mitsubishi chairman of the board of directors Noriake Hirakata during the launch of the DST car concept at the 9th Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) on Oct. 24 to 26 at the World Trade Center.

MPPC said that while the specific timing for the Philippine-spec Outlander PHEV is yet to be confirmed, its potential arrival is a significant milestone for the company.

MMPC president Ritsu Imaeda said the Philippine government’s decision to extend incentives for purely electric vehicles to hybrid vehicles changed the company’s game plan.

“We are now reevaluating our strategy and seeking approval from our headquarters to expedite the launch of the Outlander in the Philippines,” he said

MMPC is also optimistic about its overall sales performance for 2024. The company aims to sell over 90,000 units, driven by the strong performance of its existing models and the potential for model introductions.

The company considers expanding the production of the Mirage model, depending on market demand and sales momentum. “The current momentum is positive, and we are seeing healthy growth in the overall market,” Imaeda said.

MMPC is also advocating for an extension of the Comprehensive Automotive Resurgence Strategy (CARS) program for another three to five years to support local car production.
