DOE endorses 129 power projects for grid impact study

The Department of Energy (DOE) said Friday it endorsed 29 power generation projects for system impact study (SIS) to the grid operator National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) in August 2024.

It said of the 29 SIS endorsements to the NGCP, 28 are new application, while one is an amendment, bringing the total number of projects endorsed to 129.

The SIS will determine the capacity of the power grid to accommodate additional capacities and identify necessary improvements needed such as transmission lines, transformers or substations.

The endorsed projects include First Gen Visayas Energy Inc.’s wind projects in La Union, Agusan del Norte, Zamboanga Sibugay, Zamboanga del Norte, Bohol and Iloilo with a combined capacity of 800 megawatts.

Other endorsed wind projects are the 144-MW Tayabas North project of CleanTech Global Renewables in Quezon province, the 36-MW Caraga project of Caraga Wind Energy Corp. in Agusan del Norte, the 206-MW San Isidro wind project of Lihangin Wind Energy Corp. in northern Samar and the 62-MW Baao Two project of The Blue Circle Philippines Cebu Corp. in Camarines Sur.

The DOE also endorsed three hydro projects including two projects of Alsons Energy Development Corp. totaling 17 MW in Bago, Negros Occidental and Bukidnon Hydro Energy Corp.’s 32-MW Bulanog-Batang project in Bukidnon.

The remaining endorsed projects are from proposed solar facilities.

These are the 248-MW ZMW San Vicente Ubay project of ZMW Group Corp. in Bohol, the 261-MW Cambitala solar project of Cleanergy 2 Power Inc. in Nueva Ecija, the 98-MW Bawing project of Alabel Solar Energy Corp. in South Cotabato province, the 62-MW Atimonan project and the 97.6-MW Ultra solar project of Bolo Renewable Energy Corp. in Quezon province and the 181-MW Macabebe floating PV power plant of NewAsia Power Energy III Corp. in Pampanga.

The DOE also endorsed the 258.5-MW solar project of Giga Ace 14 Inc. in Pangasinan, the 74-MW Mabini solar project of Spotlight Power Inc. also in Pangasinan, the 50-MW project of Wyn Power Corp. in Batangas, the 375-MW Liloan power project of Maaraw Renewable Energy Corp. in Cebu, the 64-MW Mabini solar plant of CapitalOne Mabini Solar Inc. in Pangasinan, the 20-MW power plant of Taft Solar Energy Corp. in Eastern Samar and the 61.55-MW Capantolan project off Pacific Impact Energy Corp. in Pangasinan.
