Filipino-Chinese business group pays tribute to Ambassador Dee

The Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Inc. (FFCCCII) said Friday it mourns the loss of Ambassador Howard Dee, a paragon of virtue whose life was defined by unwavering dedication to service, integrity and deep compassion for those most in need.

FFCCCII said Dee was more than a distinguished philanthropist and accomplished businessman; he was an exemplar of moral leadership and social responsibility.

His life was a testament to the highest principles of justice, peace and human dignity. As a former peace negotiator, he dedicated himself to bridging divides and fostering reconciliation, always with the greater good of the nation as his guiding light.

Dee’s legacy is enshrined in the numerous institutions he founded and led—among them, as founding trustee of the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) in 1970, founder of the Assisi Development Foundation in 1975, the Philippine Development Assistance Program in 1984 and ASA Philippines in 2002.

Through these initiatives, and his service as a leader in various NGOs such as Tabang Mindanaw, Caritas Manila and Pondo ng Pinoy, Dee exemplified the essence of servant leadership. He led not by the power of position, but through an unwavering commitment to purpose and principle.

Dee’s contributions are deeply intertwined with the rich heritage of his family with nearly three centuries of philanthropy and pioneering entrepreneurship in the Philippines.

As the son of the late FFCCCII vice-president Dee Hong Lue, nephew of FFCCCII vice-president Dee Chiong, nephew of community’s pre-war leader and philanthropist Dee Chuan and great-grandnephew of community’s philanthropist and 19th century Philippine lumber industry pioneer entrepreneur Dy Han Kia, Ambassador Dee upheld a remarkable legacy of philanthropy and ethical entrepreneurship.

Dee’s extraordinary contributions to society were rightfully recognized with the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 2018.

Despite the numerous other accolades and honors bestowed upon him, Dee remained a man of profound humility. His deep faith in God was the cornerstone of his life, guiding every endeavor and inspiring others to lead lives of service and integrity.

FFCCII said Dee’s legacy transcends the many titles and positions he held. His true impact lies in the countless lives he touched, the communities he uplifted and the enduring principles of love, compassion and justice that he championed.

“The FFCCCII honors the memory of Ambassador Howard Dee. His life will continue to inspire us to uphold the highest ethical standards in business, to actively engage in social reform and philanthropy, and to foster a spirit of unity and peace across our nation,” the group said.
