German bioenergy companies are exploring business opportunities to help the Philippines achieve energy security.
The German-Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GPCCI) in cooperation with the Philippine Energy Efficiency Alliance (PE2) organized a conference entitled “German-Philippine Conference: Innovative Bioenergy Technologies” on June 25, 2024 in Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati City.
More than 80 participants attended the event, where German and Filipino industry experts as well as government stakeholders, shared project opportunities and best practices.
“Renewable Energy is always an excellent area for cooperation between German and Philippine companies,” said GPCCI Executive Director Christopher Zimmer in a statement.
“We believe that the time is right. We are excited to foster business and technology partnerships and set the stage for collaboration in the field of bioenergy. We are proud to have arranged around 50 b2b [business-to-business] meetings for this mission,” he said.
This business mission included five German companies, including AHT Syngas Technology N.V., which develops decentralized biomass powerplants that transforms waste residues into clean energy resources and atmosfair GmbH, a German non-profit organization that promotes global CO2 mitigation in 20 countries as well as facilitate investment in local and sustainable bioenergy projects.
The other companies are Uniglobe Environmental Technology, a consultancy firm focused on providing German environmental, recycling and energy solutions; Wangen Pumps GmbH, which provides expertise in positive displacement pumps for the most demanding industrial applications like biogas, anaerobic digestion, food pharmaceuticals and wastewater; and Weber Entec GmbH, which concentrates on systems engineering in environmental applications, especially ultrasonic disintegration of biogenic materials.
“German firms can contribute to solving the energy security challenge in the country with sophisticated technologies and experience,” said GPCCI president Maan Mariano.
“Energy cost was an important factor that companies located in the Philippines indicated in our recent AHK World Business Outlook survey,” she said.
The conference was also attended by Undersecretary Rowena Guevara of the Department of Energy (DOE) and Philippine Energy Efficiency Alliance (PE2) president Alexander Ablaza.
“I would like to emphasize that our government is committed to increase the renewable energy share in power generation,” said Guevara
“While biomass energy has not garnered the same popularity as other RE resources, its ability to convert organic waste into usable energy addresses multiple environmental challenges,” she said.
