UBX, a driver of digital transformation in the Philippines, signed a strategic partnership agreement with health maintenance organization (HMO) company MediCard Philippines Inc. to democratize health access while providing greater convenience to members.

Under the partnership, MediCard will leverage UBX’s end-to-end payment gateway BUx and the transact-now-pay-later solution Splix. This will enable MediCard to streamline premium payment collections while providing members with more flexible payment options for their healthcare coverage.

“Our collaboration with MediCard represents a significant milestone in our journey of including everyone into the financial landscape. By leveraging each of our strengths — UBX’s innovative open finance solutions and MediCard’s wide network of healthcare partners and affiliates—we are helping make healthcare more accessible and less intimidating to Filipinos,” UBX president John Januszczak said.

Tailored to enhance the customer experience of MediCard members, the partnership aims to provide unparalleled convenience in acquiring health coverage products.

Through BUx, MediCard members can pay for their coverage through payment channels such as online banking, credit/debit card payments, e-wallets and over-the-counter transactions.

BUx also has an expansive network of over 50,000 touchpoints, including pawn shops, department stores and rural banks.

Members may also leverage the insure-now-pay-later solution of UBX called Splix. This provides them greater flexibility in managing their finances without sacrificing healthcare.

“Our strategic alliance with UBX allows us to accelerate our goal of bridging the healthcare gap in the Philippines. With UBX’s innovative digital solutions and our extensive HMO expertise, we are poised to make significant strides in making healthcare more accessible, convenient, and affordable for all Filipinos,” MediCard chief executive Julian Mengual said.
