Manila Water eyes more water districts

Manila Water Company Inc., a unit of the Razon Group of tycoon Enrique Razon Jr., is looking at more partnerships with local water districts within the year as part of an aggressive expansion program.

“We’d like to close a few deals before the end of the year. We’re coming up to the end of the first half. Hopefully, if we can swing it at least one before the end of the year,” said MWCI chief administrative officer Roberto Locsin over the weekend.

Manila Water Philippine Ventures Inc. (MWPV), a wholly-owned subsidiary of MWCI, in March took over Davao Del Norte Water Infrastructure Company Inc. (Davao Water).

Locsin said the new partnerships “could be a water district, there could be bulk supply so if you look at the water value chain, we have water supply, we have water distribution, sanitation, sewage, and other services.”

The official said the company was also looking at overseas expansion opportunities, specifically in areas where Razon’s port businesses operate.
