Maybank PH names Filipina as new CEO

Maybank Group announced the appointment of Abigail Tine “Gail” del Rosario as the new president and chief executive of Maybank Philippines Inc.

MayBank confirmed the election and appointment of del Rosario as director, president and chief executive of the bank.

As president and chief executive, del Rosario’s role is to provide overall leadership in managing all aspects of MPI’s operations to ensure that the bank meets short-term and long-term goals and objectives, complies with policies and prudential regulatory requirements, and maximizes return to stakeholders.

She reports directly to Michael Foong, Maybank Group chief strategy officer and chief executive.

Prior to the appointment, del Rosario was the officer-in-charge of MPI since February 2021. During her tenure as OIC, she steered MPI in achieving financial targets.

Noteworthy of her achievements as of July 31, 2021 are 270-percent increase in profit before tax; 8.1-percent increase in pre-provision operating profit; 8.3 percent CASA ratio improvement; continuous drop in bankwide cost of funds; creation of Auto Working Group that addressed the process and systems gaps in auto finance and loan administration; lesser critical findings from the Central Bank of the Philippines as compared to previous audits where issues were addressed immediately; and improved 2021 Willis Towers Watson Employee Engagement Survey results.

Del Rosario has more than 20 years of extensive retail banking experience. She is well-known in the financial industry as a charismatic and dynamic leader, having built successful teams as country head of retail banking in Standard Chartered Bank.

She was also the director of Price Solutions PI and Asia-Bancassurance, both subsidiaries of SCB. Prior to joining Maybank, she was the senior vice president and head of wealth management in East West Bank Corp. She was also appointed as chair of BancNet in 2013 and continued as director from 2005 to 2015.

She joined MPI in 2018 as head of the community financial services (known as consumer banking in the industry) and established a strong core of highly competent and experienced core of business leaders.

Del Rosario graduated from the University of the Philippines with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management Degree.
