Mineral production in the Philippines fell 13 percent in the first half of the year to P48.25 billion from P55.84 billion a year ago on sluggish metal prices and the suspension of several mines, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau said Friday.

MGB said the value of gold production amounted to P22.68 billion, while nickel direct shipping ore and mixed nickel-cobalt sulfide reached P16.08 billion.

The value of copper production amounted to P9.01 billion, while the collective values of silver, chromite and iron ore hit P0.47 billion.

“In general, the poor showing of the nickel ore and nickel product producers during the period led to the lackluster performance of the metallic minerals industry,” MGB said.
