Wind power enough

The Energy Regulatory Commission on Friday said no wind developer will likely be able to get the remaining 6.1-MW excess capacity of the feed-in tariff under the second wave of installation targets.

ERC commissioner Josefina Patricia Asirit told reporters at a forum the regulator had expected no takers for the remaining 6.1 MW of the 200-MW wind installation target.

“By March 15,  if no installation target by DoE, no review and no FIT will be set. We do not expect any to get the 6.1 MW capacity,” Asirit said.

ERC earlier said only three wind projects were eligible for the approved P7.40 per kWh feed-in tariff rate. They are the 54-megawatt San Lorenzo wind power project Trans-Asia Renewable Energy Corp in Guimaras, 36-MW Nabas wind project of PetroWind Energy Inc. in Aklan and 54 MW-Pililla wind power project of Alternergy Wind One Corp. in Rizal.

The regulator granted a lower rate to the second wave of wind projects due to the recent developments in wind technology, such as the efficiency levels of wind turbines.
