Cignal TV, the pay television unit of Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co., expects to increase the number of subscribers to 2 million in two to three years and is unfazed by rival SkyCable Corp.’s plan to offer direct-to-home television service.

“It’s good for the consumer it gives them choice. I think for us we we welcome the competition. But of course its going be tougher, we have to work hard. So, its gonna be fun,” Cignal chief operating officer Oscar Reyes Jr. told reporters at the sidelines of the company’s thanksgiving party for reaching over 1 million subscribers.

Reyes said the company expected to end 2015 with a total subscriber base of more than 1.1 million.

Cignal has overtaken rival SkyCable and Destiny Cable with combined subscribers of  more than 800,000.

Sky Cable said in an earlier filing with the National Telecommunications Commission it would spend P252 million for the rollout of direct broadcast satellite service across 251 cities and municipalities.
