Nickel Asia Corp. said Tuesday nickel shipment from the company’s four operating mines increased 28 percent in 2014 from a year ago.

Nickel Asia said in a disclosure to the stock exchange the volume of nickel shipments reached 17.9 million wet metric tons in 2014, up from 14 million WMT in 2013.

Value of shipments surged 130 percent last year to P23.7 billion from P10.3 billion in 2013 on the back of higher prices in the world market.

Nickel Asia said the growth in shipment volumes in 2014 was led by increased ore deliveries to the Taganito and Coral Bay high-pressure acid leach plants.

Total ore deliveries to the two HPAL plants hit 7.41 million WMT in 2014, up from 4.28 million WMT in 2013.

Nickel Asia said the Taganito mine, which accounted for 40 percent of the total shipment volume, shipped 2.27 million WMT of saprolite ore and 4.82 million WMT of limonite ore.

The Rio Tuba mine shipped 2.27 million WMT of saprolite ore and 3.70 million WMT of limonite ore while Hinatuan mine shipped 3.15 million WMT of limonite ore and 314,000 WMT of saprolite ore.

The Cagdianao mine shipped 461,000 WMT of limonite ore and 890,000 WMT of saprolite ore.

“We are extremely satisfied with our achievements in 2014.  We were able to surpass our sales targets and capitalize on the strong prices which prevailed for most part of the year,” said Nickel Asia president and chief executive Gerard Brimo.
