The Mines and Geosciences Bureau has lifted the suspension order on the mining operations of Citinickel Mines and Development Corp. in Pulot, Sofronio Española, Palawan.

Citinickel, a unit of listed Oriental Peninsula Resources Group Inc., operates two mining projects, including Narra in Narra town and Pulot in the town of Sofronio Española.

The government earlier lifted the suspension order on the company’s mining operations in Narra, Palawan.

Oriental Peninsula said in a disclosure to the stock exchange the MGB, in a letter on Dec. 22, 2014, informed the company that it lifted the suspension order on Sofronio Española, Palawan mine after Citinickel complied with all the conditions and requirements set by the government.

MGB suspended the mining operations of Citinickel in Palawan last year, following a sediment spill from the Pulot nickel mine that affected two rivers in Sofronio Española, Palawan.

The incident resulted in massive discoloration of run-offs and deposition of laterite sediments along the stretch of Pasi River to Pulot River.

Citinickel was also ordered to implement measures to mitigate and remediate the damage caused by the incident.

The mining company also paid P3 million to the Environmental Management Bureau for alleged violation of the Clean Water Act of 2004.
