PH-Taiwan business forum focuses on sustainable innovation and corporate governance

The Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) of Taiwan hosted the “2024 Economic and Trade Forum Tour” on October 26, 2024 at Club Filipino in San Juan City.

The initiative aims to support Taiwanese enterprises in their efforts to upgrade and transform their industries, particularly in the context of environmental protection, social responsibility, and corporate governance.

Deputy Representative Dustin Yang of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines highlighted the government’s responsibility to help overseas Taiwanese entrepreneurs understand and strategize for the Philippines’ 2050 net-zero emissions goal.

Tom Lin, President of the Taiwan Association Inc. Philippines (TAP) emphasized the importance of adapting to local environments amidst global challenges, including the growing emphasis on ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) standards.

He expressed gratitude to the OCAC for its professional support, which aids overseas Taiwanese businesses in preparing for future trends.

During the event, the Plastics Industry Development Center and the Taiwan Association Inc. Philippines (TAP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to further enhance their cooperation.

Guest speaker Yao-Kuei Hsiao, general manager of the Plastics Industry Development Center shared insights on sustainable, high-value, and digital transformation trends.

He emphasized the crucial roles of research and development, sustainability, and digitalization in the plastics industry.

Hsiao guided participants on how to align their business operations with global trends towards sustainability to enhance production capabilities and ensure long-term viability.

Accompanied by Director Eric Chuang and Deputy Director Benjamin Liang from the Culture Center of T.E.C.O. in the Philippines, he visited Klio, a Taiwanese company renowned for its high-quality food storage solutions.

They discussed about product technology, environmental standards, and food safety. Hsiao provided valuable insights aimed at enhancing operational practices.

Jared Liang, founder of ChoozMo, discussed how businesses should adapt on AI, while Lin presented a case study on digital aquaculture.

Around 100 people participated in the event, who expressed that the discussions were timely and beneficial, highlighting key trends shaping the industry.
