Manila Mayor Isko Moreno eyes duplicating Cebu’s programs in helping boost micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSMEs), led by Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, across the country should he win the 2022 elections.
In his last visit to Cebu, Moreno also praised Cebu’s response to the pandemic which he considers as something worth emulating.
“Akala ko maganda na ‘yung ginawa natin sa Manila on how to survive business, on how to support business,” Moreno said during the announcement of the first Sugbo Negosyo champions.
“I’ve been telling that we must learn how to live with COVID-19, and go back to work safely. With that policy tinulak namin nang tinulak na mabakunahan ang tao; only to find out ang pinakamagandang idea pala na worth emulating [is in Cebu],” he said
If elected, Moreno said he will implement the same program under the Department of Trade and Industry.
Moreno said Manila and Cebu share a lot of similarities in terms of the direction the two governments have taken in addressing the pandemic, particularly in efforts that would allow their respective jurisdiction to return to normal.
“Maraming pagkakatulad ang province ng Cebu, in terms of fighting COVID-19, and in terms of cushioning the socio-economic impact of this COVID-19 in our lives,” he said.
“Mas magaling lang si Gov. Gwen.”
He also commended the construction of the Cebu-Cordova Bridge that not only created jobs but will also pave the way for trade and commerce, which he likewise deems duplicable.
“How can this be done in a speed of time, such a magnificent infrastructure that creates commerce more efficiency more ease for two islands,” he said.
“What more if we can create more islands connected in our country?”
