6 railway projects to open by mid-2022

The Department of Transportation said Wednesday said it expects six big ticket railway projects to be partially operational before the end of the Duterte administration’s term in 2022.

Transportation Secretary Art Tugade told reporters in a virtual briefing more than 400 kilometers of new railways would be partially operational by next year, up from just 76.9 kilometers of operational railways today.

Tugade said these new projects are the P65-billion LRT Cavite South Extension Project, the P9.7-billion LRT Line 2 East Extension Project, the P75-billion MRT Line 7 Project, the P356.96-billion Metro Manila Subway Project, the P149.13-billion PNR Clark Phase 1 (Tutuban to Malolo) and the P50.03-billion Subic -Clark Raiway Project.

“These projects will be partially operational by end of President Duterte’s term,” Tugade said.

He said the overall target of the government was to build and lay the groundwork for about 1,200 kilometers of railways by 2022 and beyond, which would benefit about 4.5 million passengers per day.
