Television darling Barbie Forteza is ready to pass the throne to younger stars who deserve teenybopper roles more than she does. She feels ready to shed her sweet image and tackle more mature and demanding roles.
In a recent virtual presser for a GMA anthology series, the 23-year-old television actress mentioned that she realized she’s already getting older.
“So, it’s time that I pass the throne to much younger actresses like Elijah Alejo who was one of my co-stars in I Can See You: The Lookout, which had a successful run. Yes, I’ve already graduated from my Tween Hearts days. Of course, I would do it gradually so that the transition would be smooth,” she said.
Does this mean she will just accept more mature roles in her next offerings?
“Well, for sure, it would be very challenging. Like the last one I did which was I Can See You: The Lookout. It’s out-of-the-box. It’s not formulaic. I would always love a challenge but with mature, it doesn’t mean that I’ll be doing sexy projects. People have this connotation that when you are ready for mature roles, you’ll go sexy. I’m willing to accept more mature roles that will exhibit my acting skills. It’s more on how you handled a particular character, how you played the part,” she mused.
“I’ve had enough of the teenybopper thing. But still, it would depend on the network or management. They still call the shots. Whatever project they’ll give me in the future, expect that I will always give it my 100 percent,” she added.
Interestingly, apart from television, the award-winning young actress admitted that she misses doing movies.
“Oh, yes. My last potboiler shown was back in 2018. It’s been a while. So, I really would want to make one again if ever. I never had any bad experience in doing movies. It’s all pleasant and memorable.”
“I can’t wait to be given another chance to star in a movie once again. That’s where you get to do edgy materials. I want to make a film which is not very Barbie. Just like my recent episode ‘The Lookout’ for I Can See You. It was something different and I really got excited doing it.”
On the personal side, her relationship with Jak Roberto continues to go strong. Hasn’t it crossed their minds yet to tie the knots already considering that at this point, many showbiz couples are getting married? Read the full story on manilastandard.net
“Well, sometimes, we talk and joke about it. But considering our present situation, with the pandemic, it’s hard to plan on things like that. Right now, my priority is to secure the needs of my family.
“Marriage will happen at the right time. Jak and I still have a long way to go. If we will be given the chance to last longer as a couple, I think we can plan better in the future,” Barbie ended.

Jeffrey Hidalgo, in a recent digital media conference, revealed that he wooed Geneva Cruz during their younger days. It can be remembered that formerly, they were part of the ‘90s popular singing quarter Smokey Mountain.
“That’s true! I courted Gen when I was in high school, the reason why she was my grand ball date. However, we didn’t become steadies but became very good friends eventually,” he averred.
Interestingly, their friendship remains intact up to this very day and because they’re both single at present, many of their followers tease them.
“Yes, we don’t know how to react. It’s good we’re very open to each other. That’s why we don’t feel uncomfortable with it. Like when we went to Boracay, we posted pictures of our activities on our respective social media accounts. The fans made us a love team! Ha-ha-ha! It’s quite amusing.”
At this point, isn’t it possible that romance will bloom between them?
“Honestly, our friendship has already evolved. We treat each other like siblings. That’s how close we are. I’m not closing doors but as of now, our bonding is platonic.”
Jeffrey has just recently inked a contract with Viva Artists Agency.
“Yes, I came back to them. I’m simply excited since for the past years, I focused on my directing career. Most of my projects were with GMA. My singing and acting careers took the backseat during those times.
“But now, I’m happy to be back with Viva. It’s an honor on my part. I hope that apart from acting or singing assignments, they’d give me directorial projects as well,” he stated.
