Legacy Construction Corporation empowers local farmers with feeds investment

As the COVID-19 pandemic underscores the need for stable economic opportunities, family-run holdings company Legacy Construction Corporation has reinforced its commitment to be a partner in nation building by creating uplifting jobs with its new agribusiness venture Legacy Farms.

Legacy Farms aims to empower the residents of communities across the country to actively engage in their local agriculture. Their first site can be found in Romblon, where they were able to address the province’s need to strengthen their local supply of food. While many companies have had to downsize due to the effects of this year’s quarantine measures, Legacy Farms has been able to provide employment for both seasoned and newer farmers in Romblon starting last August.

“As we work to build a more sustainable food system for the province, we choose to invest in not just the lands, but in the communities themselves,” shared Legacy Construction Corporation Director of Operations Raymond Abelido.

“Legacy Farms is grateful for the chance to enhance the livelihoods of our local farmers while also helping grow Romblon’s livestock production,” he added.

Raymond also shared that the company works to provide capacity building programs for their employees, such as basic training sessions for those who are new to farming. With sustainability being a priority for the venture, they’ve also invested in best-in-class storage facilities to ensure the shelf life of their harvests.

To revitalize the local agriculture, Legacy Farms invests in various types of grass feeds such as mombasa, mulatto, and napier. These feeds not only help grow healthy livestock, but also help to improve soil fertility and protect arid land from soil erosion.

Currently, their farmers both grow the feed and tend to the cattle and poultry on the fields. The meat and eggs harvested are then able to help other local food businesses in the area, leading to inclusive growth for the province as a whole

Legacy Construction Corporation’s President Alex Abelido gave high praise for the farmers they work with, saying, “farmers have always been some of the most essential workers, and Legacy Construction Corporation is proud to stand by them in our efforts to grow the nation.”

He shared that in the long-term, they plan on continuing this local growth side by side with even more communities in other locations.

“Just as how we are able to get the most out of our harvests, we are also able to get the most out of every community by investing in its people,” he concluded.
