Who will win the 2020 PBA Philippine Cup Best Player of the Conference Award? That’s the biggest unanswered question now with Barangay Ginebra already crowned champion and LA Tenorio named the Finals MVP.
The BPC award is decided by 40% from average statistical points, 30% press and media votes, 25% players’ votes and 5% Commissioner’s Office.
TNT Tropang Giga’s Ray Parks leads the statistical race. And with players likely to vote according to franchise affiliation Parks should be the favorite to win the award.
Ginebra’s Stanley Pringle did not even crack the top five in the statistical race. The top five are Parks, Calvin Abueva of Phoenix Super LPG, CJ Perez of Terrafirma Dyip, Matthew Wright also of Phoenix and Roger Pogoy of TNT.
However, Ginebra did win the title and the man who carried the team the entire conference is Pringle.
Abueva is an unlikely pick to win. But a victory for him would be the PBA’s ultimate story of redemption. Suspended for 16 months for acts inimical to the league, the ‘Prodigal Son’ returns in time to not only play well but to win the BPC Award.
Abueva was suspended for 16 months and rejoined competition late. But he still managed to place second in statistical points.
Without Abueva, Phoenix lost 2 of their first 5 games. But after Abueva joined the team Phoenix would lose just 1 more of their next 6 games to finish in a tie for first place after the elimination round.
TNT’s Parks or Ginebra’s Pringle will likely be crowned Best Player of the Conference.
But because he made the biggest impact this conference and he had to overcome the most adversity Abueva winning the Best Player of the Conference Award would be the best narrative to conclude this PBA Season.
