President Rodrigo Duterte named two new commissioners of the Energy Regulatory Commission, replacing the post of two commissioners who have completed their seven-year terms and ensuring the continuity of the regulator’s services to power consumers amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Lawyer Floresinda Digal, the current spokesperson and executive director of the ERC, was named as a commissioner in place of Josefina Patricia Asirit. Digal, who first joined the Energy Regulatory Board, the predecessor of ERC in 1994, is expected to serve as commissioner until July 2027.
A certified public accountant from Davao, Marko Romeo Fuentes was also appointed to replace Paul Cristian Cervantes as commissioner. Both Cervantes and Asirit’s terms ended on July 10.
“The appointment of Com Floresinda Balgos-Digal brings with her a deep knowledge of the responsibilities of a regulator….Her appointment will inspire the employees of ERC to work with renewed dedication and commitment as she is one of us,” ERC chairperson Agnes Devanadera said.
