Just two days after the 14-day citywide lockdown began in Navotas City, 349 individuals were arrested for not following safety protocols amid the coronavirus pandemic.
According to Mayor Toby Tiangco, “This is only the data as of July 16, 5 p.m.”
Most of those arrested by the police were not wearing face masks appropriately, violating the 1-to-2 meters social distancing, and not following the 24-hour curfew for those under 21 years old.
For the arrested minors, their parents or guardians were fined P1,000 for the first offense.
Navotas has deployed 300 policemen in various places to ensure that no one violates the ordinances, “but many are still violating the safety protocols,” Tiangco said.
The lockdown will end on July 29, as the city hopes to stem the increase in the number of COVID-19 patients.
