Navotas sends relief to Taal blast evacuees

The City Government of Navotas has brought relief assistance to Batangas and Cavite for families affected by the Taal Volcano eruption.

The city donated 1,600 hygiene kits, P300,000 worth of medicines, and 300 sacks of rice for evacuees in Batangas City and Trece Martires.

The hygiene kit, contained in a 16-liter pail, included toothbrush and toothpaste, sanitary napkins, shampoo with conditioner, bath soaps, detergent bars, dipper, bath and hand towels, blanket, and undergarments for men and women.

“We thank our employees for volunteering to prepare and pack the relief goods. We also thank Navoteños and all those who brought their donations for Taal evacuees,” Mayor Toby Tiangco said.

“It is during times of calamities that you see the spirit of bayanihan among Filipinos. Our bayanihan and the Filipino’s resilience enable us to rise above hardship and move forward in life,” he added.

Tiangco previously appealed to the public to donate drinking water in big containers, rice and food items, medicines, undergarments, diapers, toiletries, and pails—items most needed by the affected families.

Earlier, city councilors, together with volunteers from JCI Navotas and Phantom Fire and Rescue Team, also brought rice, bottled water, canned goods, instant noodles, toiletries and clothes to two evacuation centers in Mataas na Kahoy, Batangas.

Rep. John Rey Tiangco also donated cash, which the contingent used to buy some of the relief items.

Navotas also donated P500,000 to Tulunan, Cotabato, which was rocked by magnitude 6.6 and 6.5 earthquakes in November last year.
